The President’s Message
Time flies, and it has been 13 years since the association was established. Looking back at the beginning of its establishment, a group of experts, scholars, and industry elites of the intelligent building industry gathered to plan the development blueprint of intelligent building in Taiwan. Having full support from past presidents and TIBA members, the business of the association has been flourishing through the years. The eight working committees of TIBA have been doing a great job on promoting intelligent buildings from different aspects including (1) providing the key indicators for intelligent building and its cost-benefit analysis, (2) assisting government to improve the manual contents for the Intelligent Building Labels evaluation, and (3) selecting excellent intelligent green buildings for TIBA awards. In addition, members are invited to join the intelligent buildings exhibition event at the annual Smart City Summit & Expo.
The association also calls on the system integration industry to formulate standards for the data format of intelligent building information and communication. So far, four standard documents have been released and become the standard bases for data formats of intelligent building systems. Apart from the technical services, research and development, standards modification, and standards formulation, the association also organizes training courses to cultivate intelligent green building professionals for the industry annually. At present, up to one thousand people participated in the training courses. Among them, 240 people passed the examination for the certificate of intelligent green building professionals.
The association also established the Asia-Pacific Intelligent Green Building Alliance (APIGBA) in 2014. The Alliance grew from the first four member countries/regions to seven including Taiwan, South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, China, Hong Kong, and Macau. APIGBA holds a conference every two years and hosts the award competition for the Excellent Asia-Pacific Intelligent Green Buildings and System Products Awards (APIGBA Awards). APIGBA conferences provided good opportunities for different members to exchange the technologies of Intelligent green buildings. It needs to point out that the intelligent buildings and green buildings nominated by TIBA were very competitive and had won many APIGBA awards over the past years.
Due to the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic, traveling among countries has been restricted since 2019. The APIGBA conference has been postponed for 2 years. However, with the gradual relief of the epidemic, many activities of the association were back to normal in 2022. The association (TIBA) begins to invite APIGBA members to come to Taiwan and visit the Smart City-Smart Building Exhibition in March 2023. In the meantime, the APIGBA Conference will be held as well as the APIGBA awards competition. The coming APIGBA event has received enthusiastic responses from all member countries and regions, and all APIGBA members are expected to attend.
Facing the problems of global warming and climate change, the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 26) announced that the era of fossil fuels is coming to an end and agreed on a few issues centered on the “zero carbon economy”. 2050 net Zero carbon emission has become a global consensus! In 2022, the Taiwan government also announced that the 2050 net-zero transformation is also the goal of Taiwan. It includes four major transformations in the policy: energy transformation, industrial transformation, life transformation, and social transformation. It will bring unlimited business vision and opportunities to the development of the intelligent green building industry! In line with the promotion of the global sustainable development guidelines (SDGs) and ESG, an important indicator for evaluating business operations, Taiwan’s intelligent building industry will continue to move forward with “intelligent zero-carbon buildings” as its goal in the future.
It has been 13 years since the establishment of the association (TIBA). Thanks to the honorary president Lee Hung-chin and the former president Peng Chi-chuan, for their excellent leadership to help the association’s business grow steadily. Thanks to the support of the TIBA members, I was re-elected as the president of TIBA in 2022. In the time of rapid digital transformation, I shall carry out my duties to serve members and the intelligent building industry. I look forward to working side by side with all directors and supervisors with the same enthusiasm and intention to promote intelligent green building following the six major development goals of TIBA. Let’s work together to create a new prosperity of intelligent green buildings. Thank you!
